An eBook is just like a regular book, except that you can read it on your computer, tablet (like an Apple iPad, for example), or your smartphone. They are typically in electronic format, such as PDF (Portable Document Format) and if you use iBooks you know that your Library lets you display books in two different formats, including PDF.
